"'Three Ways to Output from a Recorder' arrives as one of Takamitsu Ohta's first solo audio publications on physical format in nearly six years. During this time, he has performed frequently near and away from his home in Kyoto, recorded multiple collaborations, and These settings were documented by Senufo Editions in the monograph Elemental Studies. Recurrent in his sound works is the use of tapes, stones, piezo discs, motors, and other The pieces on this CD are of microscopic intimacy and don't shy away from the humble circumstances in which they were achieved. Frusen Musik employs a rougher dialect similar to his Altar of Flies moniker, although it’s often used on the scenic grounds of works from his recently lauded Frånvarande and Nattmusik LPs. Eight stunningly impactful works of cavelike architecture for an inspired rattling of the cage, a curious peeling of the wallpaper. Drips, wobbles, creaks, and cracks are turned to gold while nearby liquid encroaches a vulnerable circuit, disembodied voices spiriting in through the vents. Pry this one open and find flashes of entropy, unplaceable dread, meditative stares, and an acceptable dosage of melancholy.
