A two-disc compilation record of Canto A Lo Divino, a religious folk song from Chile's Central Valley.

Below is a commentary by the label.

"Canto A Lo Divino is the sacred music of Chile's Central Valley. This music is a community of worship and reflection for the peasants of this area, and it is played in packed rooms all night long after work. A hypnotic variation resounded with the guitar and the 25-string Tenku no Guitar Ron.

Over the centuries, Kant has lived on in the voices of hundreds of men and women, conjuring vivid visions of apocalypse, God and Angelitos (the dead little child). But the poem is also rooted in everyday life in the valley: labor and drought, the life cycle of families, animals and plants. The ten-line decima, an ancient song form that originated in Spain and traveled from South America to the Mississippi Delta, has a myriad of entnations (melodies) inherited. This combination is captivating, transporting, cosmic, and terrestrial at the same time.

The artwork showcases the work of Frederico Rohse, a baker from the village of Los Vilos, who brought to life a vision of the apocalypse from Kant on an old flour sack.

Mississippi Records, in collaboration with the Campesino En Movimiento Museum, is privileged to offer an archive of hundreds of hours of Kant's field recordings.

The double LP is housed in a gorgeous gatefold jacket with eight pages of lyrics, photographs and detailed notes on Kant's traditions. "

Mississippi Records:

"Canto A Lo Divino is the sacred music of Chile's Central Valley. It is a communal form of worship and reflection for the peasants of the remote region, played in packed rooms throughout the night when work is done, hypnotic variations chiming out on the guitar and the celestial, 25-string guitarron.

The Canto has persisted for centuries in the voices of hundreds of men and women who conjure vivid visions of apocalypse, the divine, and angelitos (very young children who have died). But the verses are also rooted in daily life in the valley - labor and drought, family, animals, and the life cycles of plants. There are countless entonaciones (melodies) passed on in 10-line rhyming decimas, an ancient song form originating in Spain and found from South America to the Mississippi Delta. entering and transporting, cosmic and earthly at once.

The artwork introduces the work of Frederico Lohse, a baker from the village of Los Vilos who brought the end-times visions from the cantos to life - the apocalypse painted on old flour sacks.

Mississippi Records is privileged to work with the Museo Campesino En Movimiento and their archive of hundreds of hours of intimate field recordings of the Canto - music rarely, if ever, heard outside of the region."
