In Brooklyn, signals blare from dollar vans, bakeries, churches, street corner and table radios on Flatbush Avenue. "Nakibembe, a small village in Uganda's Kingdom of Busoga (one of four remaining constitutional monarchies), has long had a communal space reserved for locals to perform music and socialize. has a deep hole and crosses the groove to amplify the giant xylophone "enver", which consists of 8-4 wooden keys. While log xylophones are common in East Africa, the music played by the Basoga, an eastern Bantu people, is special and unique, with its own tunings, dances, and auxiliary instruments.Up to eight musicians perform simultaneously around Enver, creating an ensemble layered with hypnotic polyrhythms and adding vocals, shakers and drums. The Nakibembe Xylophone Group was one of the last groups to play with the Humbert, and as anyone who's seen them live will know, they create a complex, multi-layered wall of sound, perfect wherever they play. This is a collaborative record released by experimental musicians Lawrence English from Australia and Werner Dafeldecker from Austria on the Swiss drone label Hallow Ground in November 2. Contains two long-form sound collages and dronescapes created by Werner Dafeldecker based on field recordings collected by Lawrence English. DL code included. It's an orange edition.Below is an explanation by the label. "Tropic of Capricorn is the second album by Lawrence English and Werner Dafeldecker.Based on field recordings made by the prolific Room 2023 owner, the legendary Austrian improviser uses electro-acoustic techniques to Subtly but decisively inflected, these two full-length works blur the lines between sonic ecology and aesthetic intervention, between concrete local sound worlds and transnational art. The works question where nature ends and human perception begins, and at the same time focus on the relationship between us, the listeners, and nature. They deeply disturb and, perhaps, dazzle in the most beautiful of ways. English recorded the base material on two different field trips, one in the Pilbara region from the west coast to northern Australia, and the other in the Arrernte lands of the central desert. "And in some ways, it's a rejection of the modern civilization's refusal to listen to the land," says English. When recording the soundscapes, the artist focused on the remnants of failed colonial aspirations. "The buildings and objects that remain from failed ranches and other efforts create their own ominous world of sounds. "Even in the most remote places, the distant drone of industry can be heard. This is a record released by Sam Dunscombe, an experimental musician from Berlin, Germany, on the Australian experimental label Black Truffle in November 2023.Contains two sound collage/drone songs processed from field recordings of the forest and the sea.Below is an explanation by the label. Two Forests begins in a redwood forest in central California.Bird songs and insect calls are processed with various time-based processing methods (slicing and recombination, primitive granular synthesis, delay, etc.) to remove the linear, documentary character from field recordings and to reduce traces and echoes. reconstructed in a fascinating web. Dunscombe analyzed the pitches contained in the original recording and generated a large set of just-intonated pitches. These sounds are slowly woven into the field recordings, gradually increasing in density and complexity, transforming the forest into a surreal space of infinite proportions. At the end of the song, we break out of this cosmic expanse and find ourselves in the Amazon rainforest outside Manaus, Brazil. As Dunscombe writes, the work creates "a strange sense of place, where space and time simultaneously expand and contract across octaves, miles, and minutes." On Oceanic, various beach recordings fade in and out, the rhythm of the waves and the depth and distance of each recording creating a homogeneous yet ever-changing texture. The tones, related in simple proportions to the average rhythm of each beach, overlap each other, coloring the field recording's white noise texture with shifting hues.In both works, Dunscombe rejects the easy consonance of contemporary ambient music in favor of richer harmonic arrangements derived from extended tuning practices and spectralism. The result suggests a hitherto undreamed-of encounter between the rolling sonic masses of Radulesque and the sparingly processed location recordings of Ivtaiber's "psychologically extreme" Environments. .Beyond the narrow-mindedness that can plague experimental music culture, Dunscombe's work makes a moving case for the healing power of a wide-ranging approach to sound and music.Beyond psychedelic therapy, frequent immersion in Two Forests/Oceanic is almost certain to have psychologically beneficial results. Congolese multi-instrumentalist/pop artist Titi Bakorta released a record on Nyege Nyege in August 2023.Here's the label's commentary: "Titi Bakorta was nearly doomed. The Congolese multi-instrumentalist, born and raised in Kinshasa, fell off a boat while crossing the mighty Congo River en route to Uganda. He couldn't swim. Bakorta was rescued by a friend and dragged to the nearest city, Kisangani, where he unexpectedly met local singer-dancer Papparas, and soon they formed a band together and traveled across continents, settling in Tanzania, South Sudan and Dubai. He also appeared in front of the beloved Congolese vocalist General Defao, who opened for the legendary Souks bands Grand Zaiko Wawa, Chock Stars and Big Stars, now based in Kampala. Bacorta, who is active, puts his own twist on Congolese pop and folk sounds, weaving traditional elements into a grid of psychedelic guitar loops, mocking voices and eccentric beatbox rhythms in his debut. On Kop', he bends woodblock snaps into a stuttering blur, emotionally wailing over rolling riffs and weird, theatrical glints of xylophones. It's still pop music on some levels, but it curves around Bakorta's unwieldy personal narrative, which feels like everything could fall apart at any moment, but Bakorta's confident modernity. It's all held together by a quintessential production cleverness: Elles Vais is airier with her sky-high souk vocals hovering over tight, electronic drums, and entwined guitar echoes slink away. They overlap like a tapestry woven into the fabric of the album, providing a perfect contrast to Bakorta's impending, driving pulse, while on Molende his chants and phrases fly cleanly between hymns and contemporary R&B. It's no surprise that Bakorta teamed up with Metal Players' Jessie Hackett on the final track, Titis Haunted House, whose eerie synths are eccentric enough to match Bacorta's ghostly wails and fuzzy guitar sounds. Hackett's eerie synths provide a fitting eccentric foundation for Bakorta's ghostly wails and fuzzy guitar sounds.Able to showcase Congolese pop and folk sounds behind a brilliant gauze of inventive production and songwriting quirkiness, the album showcases one of Congo's most innovative talents. there is " Click here for labels and other works /// Click here to see more Hakuna...

Lebanese collage artist Read Yassin released this record in 2019 on the Portuguese jungle label Discrepant.A satirical record that collages political speeches, radio and TV news, jingles, pop music, and revolutionary songs from the 1980s when Lebanon's civil war was raging. DL link included.Mastered by Rashad Becker.Below is a commentary by journalist Rayya Badran Beirut. "In this 24-minute piece, Yassin encapsulates the auditory and acoustic landscapes experienced by those who witnessed the war, and published it for the first time under its original name. The civil war that raged in Lebanon from 1975 to 1990 escalated. In the 1980s, when power outages and underground shelters continued, the only way people heard the news was through television and transistor radios. Collected through regular visits to scattered and neglected archives of record stores, etc. Yassin draws from over 300 hours of material, including political speeches, radio and television commercials, news flashes and jingles, and local media. 80s pop music, dubbed Japanese anime songs, propaganda, resistance, revolutionary songs, and fragments of Ziad Rabani's plays. If you remember the period immediately after, it's like Proust's Madeleine: commercials, songs, and speeches collide and intertwine as if Yassin had inserted a radio tuner into his mind, creating a dream ( Or a nightmare), the sound rises and falls, resonates with the hidden sound memories of his contemporaries, and resonates with a deeply personal terrain of sound. What is most impressive about this album is the meticulous attention to musicality that Yassin has used in the various recordings, whether propaganda music, vocal patterns or news jingles. , The CW Tapes opens with Yassin's adoration of various political and musical figures who appeared in the Lebanese media in the 1980s. Lebanese pop singer, Lebanese pop singer The absurdity of war is highlighted by juxtapositions of Sammy Clarke's frivolous pop songs, an array of overlapping tones and textures, and glossolalia of processed voices that dwell in archaic techniques of the time. As the song progresses, the words become increasingly undecipherable, and in beautiful passages where Yassin separates sighs and breaths, as if to indicate a wartime respite, yet another commercial or pop song at full volume. be swept away. There are also occasional scenes of Yassin singing and whistling along with the song, which is a staple of Yassin's other music projects. In his relentless effort to mine and work with the sonic archives of Lebanon's recent past, the CW Tapes are perhaps Yassin's most personal work to date. "This compilation takes us on a journey to the coast of Colombia, where the passion for African music burns. You can't understand this love unless you first look to San Basilio de Palenque. San Basilio de Palenque was the first free city in colonial Latin America, founded in 1691 as a refuge and place of self-government for black slaves, just 50 kilometers from Cartagena de Indias. A place where pride in African heritage and culture is preserved, Afro-Caribbean connections to their roots have given rise to the artisanal, high-powered sound system found in Jamaica, the Pico. .These music lovers have a keen ear for African melodies and have created a vibrant collector's scene that brings the Afro sound to the streets of Barranquilla, Cartagena and Santa Marta. This compilation showcases the best of Benga music in Kenya, a unique style with a unique guitar picking method using traditional instruments such as Nyatiti and Oltu. From carefully guarded "exclusives" to piconemas that change song names in Spanish based on lyrics and dancefloor reaction, you'll learn all about the history and stories behind these African tracks. The project was led by Spanish record collector Joan Pujol, AKA Golfo De Guinea, with help from Barranquilla-born musicologist Don Alirio, who provided a coastal perspective, and song selection and securing the rights. "Gibraltar Drakus literally exploded in popularity with their first album, Hommage A Zanzibar (1989), which sold over 10 copies despite being heavily pirated. The recording of this album was the reason for the recording of this album. Gibraltar Drakus commissioned prolific producer Mystic Jim to record and mix it, Gibraltar Drakus' other band from this period was Les Martians, but did not appear on the album due to the leader's disagreement. At the advice and recommendation of Mystic Jim, he changed band members for the recording, adding Simba Daniel Ebusa on solo guitar, Piero Aheno on rhythm guitar and Jean-Paul Richet on bass. The musical innovation lies in the discipline of guitar interplay and orchestration, resulting in a mind-boggling clockwork of cross-rhythm harmonies. In some ways, this music is sublime. , surprisingly relaxed in its gymnastic execution. He aimed for a sound that lies between the sensibilities of the famous Les Veterans, Zanzibar and Messi Martin. He has worked with both Zanzibar and Messi Martin. and thanks to them I was able to immerse myself in the music of Victory and Betty: "Zanzibar taught me how to compose, and I learned a lot musically from Zanzibar. Dutch experimental musician Harold Schellinx released a limited edition of 2022 CDs from the Greek experimental label Coherent States in July 7.Includes 50 minimalist sounds made with only typing sounds during university lectures. It is out of print.Below is an explanation by the label. In the autumn of 8, a close friend of Harold Schellinx enrolled as an art history undergraduate at the Paris 2018st Panthéon-Sorbonne University UFR1.Since French is not her native language, she recorded many of her live lectures with the Dictaphone app on her iPhone so that she could re-listen to some or all of them over time.During her lectures, students often take notes on their laptop keyboards. The sounds of these students taking notes and typing become a chorus at the same time, followed by a sustained, multi-layered whispering and whispering of machines for almost the entire lecture time. And occasionally it fades out from the background to the foreground. It was a brief moment when the speaker paused and stood still.Harold Sherinx has access to this recording and has deleted all of the lecturer's words. As a result, while capturing the words spoken by an art history lecturer into a digital text file, the sound of thousands of electric bugs chirping and singing in unison, creating this astonishing seascape by blaring a number of laptop keyboards at high speed. and a sound like rain was left behind. This typing chorus is also accompanied by student movements and environmental sounds such as coughs and sneezes.Especially during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, lectures were on the verge of shutting down, right before college classes moved from physical rooms to virtual zooms. The "Histoire de l'Art" cdr, available from Coherent States, is a history lecture without the history part. The teacher speaks words, which become phrases, which students hear and understand in some way.In the student's mind, the words are recombined, often interpreted into different phrases or words, and the letters are stored one by one in the laptop's memory by pressing the corresponding keys on the computer keyboard. It is also an audio record that records the interesting analog-to-digital data transfer process of transferring it to the teacher's teaching and saving it as a digital text file that understands the instructor's teaching. This album makes you listen to it.Harold Sherinx is an artist, author, improviser and creator of unusual music. As a member of Young Lions and other post-punk bands in the late 3s, he was one of the first to start the 'ultra' movement (the Dutch version of what has become known internationally as 'post-punk experimental pop'). , co-founder, editor and London correspondent of the Dutch contemporary music magazine Vinyl. He studied formal music and computer-aided composition at the Institute of Sonology and mathematics and its foundations at the University of Amsterdam. He was a mentor to important pioneers of industrial music in the '70s, like Nigel Jacklin and his Alien Brains project, of which he was also a short-lived member. He is a dictaphone experimenter, member of the eclectic media duo 'okoi', and curator of the online 'found tapes exhibition'.He is a member of the Paris-based electroacoustic improvisational quartet Diktat, and in 80 released the Tour De ...

*Available only at our store in Japan This is a record released in March 2023 by Brazilian sound artist Adam Matschulat from British experimental label Calling Cards Publishing in a limited edition of 3 copies.Includes two self-documentary musique concretes about places and family, recorded in his hometown of Formosa. Comes with DL code and insert.Below is an explanation by the label. Formosa, composer Adam Matschulat's first major work under his full name, is a deeply personal album of field recordings of kitchens, churches, forests and farms expressed in musique concrète structures. "This is the place I call home," says Matschulat of Formosa. “I used to spend all my summer vacations here. It was a place where I felt safe, a refuge from the city life that I found difficult. and a reverence for the magic of this place."Two sidelong compositions include moments of intimacy between his families (his mother speaks German to his grandfather), the singing of the church. , which includes those recorded in Formosa, such as the sounds of a family barbecue. It also contains latent allusions to life and death, such as the cloud of flies, which suggests decay and return to the soil. "This album is about death and about the forest, about the cycle of the land and our little beings around it," he says. “My grandfather is the strongest man I have ever known. It got so bad he couldn't even hold an accordion. He had lost his sense of purpose, and I wanted to explore that feeling in my recordings."This album consists of two large songs. The first explores the connection between death and land and is built around the warp and weft of place and dialogue.Seen from a distance, field recordings of farm work in progress, conversations around the table, German songs shimmering as the accordion stops on a bed of night bug sounds, hymns once removed by the static electricity of the tape, like It looks like a sonic symbol of remembrance or psychological detachment. If you listen closely, you will notice the skillful manipulation of collage and electro-acoustic. Matschulat's family farm is surrounded by native Atlantic forest, and the trees are protected, so many of the recordings were made under this canopy. As a child, Matschulat said he felt as if he had crossed a threshold, and felt the magic and horror contained in this environment. "In Formosa we went into the woods and recorded. There are snakes and all kinds of things that you don't want to step on. Formosa is in the south of Brazil and his mother's family lived in Prussia in the 200s. His great-grandfather built a church there, which still stands today, and the congregation sings in German hymnbooks from the 2s. My grandfather worked while playing the accordion, farming as the head of a pious village surrounded by forests. Formosa's second track is about life, expressed in the form of her love for the potato salad whose recipe is on the sleeve note and which her grandmother has a vivid memory of making at her family's barbecues. It has been. The song begins with the strange sound of a boiled egg being put into a bowl of water, then the phone rings, sinks, plates, cutlery, mayonnaise and potatoes, and the sounds of a home.It is a peaceful family scene where time passes quietly until the meal is ready. The two works in Formosa are meditations on everyday connections with home and family, and more broadly on concepts of life, death and belonging. This album creates a psychological atlas about the meaning of our everyday sound world, the teleology of places, safety and home.Click here for labels and other works /// Click here to see more Calling Cards...

Philip Samartzis, a professor at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia and sound artist Eric La Casa, released a limited edition of 2020 copies from the Portuguese experimental label Cronica in 100.About 50 minutes of field recording recorded in Kruger National Park, South Africa. Comes with DL code.It is out of print.Below is a commentary by Philip Samartzis.Kruger National Park is located in the northeastern part of South Africa, between the Tropic of Capricorn. It is a subtropical park with a length of about 360 km and a width of 65 km that borders Zimbabwe and Mozambique and spans the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga.Wildlife and flora such as acacias, buffalo grass, mopane shrubs, acacias, baobabs and marula are abundant.Several rivers flow through the park, including the Crocodile, Retaba, Limpopo, Lviv, Olifants and Saby rivers. The vast wilderness is dotted with bush camps, safari lodges, gift shops, restaurants and viewing platforms for viewing flora and fauna. This stereo version of Captured Space is born from a multi-channel sound installation that explores two parallel environments: nature and architecture. While Kruger's natural world is wild and ferocious, the built world, including roads and settlements, is pedestrian and designed to keep visitors comfortable and safe from the daily struggles of life and death. From your car, you'll discover a wonderful habitat made up of familiar characters. However, no matter how far they travel, they cannot easily escape the space constraints of cars and the high-voltage electric fences surrounding tourist spots. While African animals are the protagonists of zoos around the world, at Kruger the animals are vigilant and protective of an exotic mix of people confined to minimal space for self-defense. The sounds that make up Captured Space were recorded over 2 days by Eric and I as we leisurely toured the park looking for recording opportunities. However, the park has strict rules and it was unexpected that our activities would be restricted. It quickly became clear that our documentation project was as much about the rich ecosystems we seek to document as about the places we were imprisoned. So all the recordings were made from inside the car, on the bridge, inside the hut, and inside the enclosure where we stayed each night. From these places the sounds always seemed to come from somewhere else than where we were.Always distant, hidden from view, frustrating and elusive. Captured Space offers a kaleidoscopic experience of the South African wilderness through infrastructure that facilitates access to a world populated by strange and menacing creatures.A mysterious world with intense soundscapes, scorching heat during the day, and bleak nights.Click here for labels and other works /// Click here to see more...

A record released by Canadian sound artist Joshua Bonnetta in November 2022 from French experimental label Shelter Press.Includes two deep listening field recording collage tracks. Comes with a 11-page booklet, an essay by Erika Balsom, a postcard, and a viewing code for the video work "The Two Sights."Below is an explanation by the label.Bonetta uses film, photography, and recordings to engage in intimate, generative dialogue with one another.Photography shows the proximity and urgency of sound, sound shows the need for moving images, and film harnesses the eyeball to propel the sonic realm forward. The elements that make up his work, whether film, record, or photography, are both autonomous and interrelated. - Artists and objects act as subjective lenses, exploring the nature of human experience and the diverse and potential psychological realities of inherited histories, cultures, places and self-connections.It is a reactive practice that emerges from encounters with places and situations, and seeks to bring order to the chaotic abstraction that amazes the mind and leads to legends and myths.Bonetta's works are not in the abstract and "pure" tone state of experimental music "free from individual tastes and memories (psychology)" pursued by Concrete and John Cage, but by-products of sound collage. There is, however, a deep sympathy with Luc Ferrari's concept of 'anecdotal music', capable of explaining and preserving the social and autobiographical contexts of the materials and recordings and their meaning dimensions.Rather than forcing stereotypes about artists, listeners are encouraged to construct their own stories. This is two audio compositions Bonetta composed from field recordings made in Barra, Bernelei, North Uist, Harris and Lewis in the Outer Hebrides in 2-60. The same is true for Strangers.Drawing on Bonetta's fascination with sound as a primary means of investigating places and people, Innse...
