"Patrick Shiroishi returns with his second Notice album, a duo with double bassist Kyle Motl. “Apparitions” opens this album of the same name, and we are greeted with wispy and amorphous trails of wind-blown textures, as if the very first layer of This is an album full of expressive and poetic phrasings, jittery movements and Motl's bowing is at once light and textural and later deep and full-bodied; his plucking is loose, patterned, and metallic. Shiroishi's playing is frenetic and incredibly focused, playful. and intense, at times intoning into the horn lengthy vocal expressions which only heighten the mysterious and cathartic energy running throughout these pieces. "
