Artist statement by Camp of Wolves:

"The album was inspired by my great-grandfather's life before, during and immediately after WW1 of which I am very lucky to have documentation, letters, stories, news articles and keepsakes from.

After spending a year atoning for some unknown reason as a remittance man in Canada, he returned home and was soon sent as part of the British Expeditionary Forces' cavalry to the Western Front at the outbreak of war from his small home village in Somerset, one He served through its entire, narrowly surviving a shelling where a piece of shrapnel went through his horse, killing it and into his shaving brush which saved his life during the battle of St. Quentin. He would lose his young wife / my great grandmother to a routine tooth extraction during this same time. The Western Chronicle and GW Saunders in his History of Martock wrote that "he may claim to be the first Englishman to lead our victorious armies across the Rhine". Like many men he returned home a changed man to a broken family, things that would reverberate through time, causing intergenerational trauma and eventual immigration in the decades to come ”
