Recorded in May 2021, right after the second lockdown in Portugal, “I” shows them freely exploring their instruments of choice but also finding and creating sound with “objects”, as they describe.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eBoth musicians leave behind familiar ground and use their instruments to create sounds that appear ceremonial or even manifest themselves as rituals. “+” sets the tone, dark, sparse and haunting, and the next four tracks (all on the \"positive\" side, with “+” added to each title) make use of the freedom proposed by this experiment with the uncanny. Composed by João Kyron (keyboards\/electronics) and Tony Watts (drums), long-time friends and collaborators on different projects, the most prominent one being the exotic and dreamy Beautify Junkyards (Ghost Box). As a duo\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e they’re a totally different game.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ePlaying live regularly after the release of “Opala” offered them the possibility to explore a more freeform approach to their sound. Their live sets were often unpredictable, focused on the communication dynamic between the trio (Ana Farinha joins them on their performances) and where they could be led to, instead of reinterpreting the songs. “Incorporeal” embodies that attitude, it is a less confined album and it is not worried about being referential or even self-referential. They finally discovered how to expand the hauntology dynamics and free themselves from design restraints.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe album feels lighter, fluent, more optimistic. It remains thematically close to the eternal sci-fi discomfort, imagine Burial living in Lisbon, Portugal. João and Tony feel free from any doubts they might have had in the beginning of this project and are now more confident about how Hidden Horse sounds and unpreoccupied about the narrative: it is rock oriented but dressed as the electronic \/ dance music they would like to listen and dance to. Their live sets were often unpredictable, focused on the communication dynamic between the trio (Ana Farinha joins them on their performances) and where they could be led to, instead of reinterpreting the songs. “Incorporeal” embodies that attitude, it is a less confined album and it is not worried about being referential or even self-referential. They finally discovered how to expand the hauntology dynamics and free themselves from design restraints.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe album feels lighter, fluent, more optimistic. It remains thematically close to the eternal sci-fi discomfort, imagine Burial living in Lisbon, Portugal. The name, Brace, five letters, one syllable. The title of their debut album, “Quaternity”, refers to the four pieces in it. Even the straightforwardness of the song-titles leaves no room for doubt. The Bristol duo featuring Ollie Moore (reeds\/keyboards) and Aidan Searle (drums\/percussion) know what it is doing: plain free jazz born of instant composition.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eMoore has been around for a while, an active player of the Bristol post-punk scene as a founding member of Pigbag and has collaborated with Au Pairs, Head, Red Snapper and Craig Davies, among others. Searle’s interest in performing has resurfaced in the last decade, playing drums in bands such as Hi Fiction Science, HEXIT (with Ollie Moore), Dominions of Glue and Omega Institute. The two have started to collaborate a few years ago and have made a name for themselves in the Bristol\/London improvisation scene with sessions at Sounds On The Corner, Domestic Sound Cupboard, Skronk and Flim Flam.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003e“Reaction-Formation” opens as it should: an introduction to the Brace domain. The phrases are open, Searle’s drums feel fresh and are relaxed in a very particular groovy way. Both know where they’re going with no one in command. Picking up from his experiments in “Vol. 9 After The Circle” (Discrepant, 2020), where he created music with the sounds of daily routines, “when springtime comes again” works around those idea of sounds\/noises and how the frequencies make part of our lives. Think about a washing machine, a vacuum cleaner or a fridge. You don’t hear them but you sense them in the sound Felizardos produces. He’s playing with our mind in this one. It is fast and, at first, it sounds incomplete, interrupted. After a minute or so it becomes clear that those first impressions are wrong. The soundtrack for the film by Madalena Fragoso and Margarida Meneses is composed of fragments that create a sustained harmony.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003ePolido explores the concept of a soundtrack, using and reusing sounds of the film to create his own narrative. Those random whispers from “Outros Cortes” become melodies, not voices. A move to Barcelona a few years ago gave him new notions of how the Amazon was imagined by the west. The inspiration for this record came from the book by Anton Goering \"Vom tropischen Tieflande bis zum ewigen Schnee\" and was also influenced by the writings of Victor Segalen and the visions of Werner Herzog in “Fitzcarraldo” and “Aguirre”. The way that these artists explored and romanticised ideas of the unknown were the trigger for the creation of the sounds heard in “Ficciones Del Trópico\".\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eUsing a Yamaha CS-60 Synthesizer, Molero creates an enigmatic and utopian voyage inspired by the tropical and exotic desire of European’s first contact with these foreign and unexplored sites. For his first record, he wanted to create soundscapes for the wilderness reminiscent of the European explorers that faced the unknown and beyond of the Amazon forest in the 19th century. A move to Barcelona a few years ago gave him new notions of how the Amazon was imagined by the west. The inspiration for this record came from the book by Anton Goering \"Vom tropischen Tieflande bis zum ewigen Schnee\" and was also influenced by the writings of Victor Segalen and the visions of Werner Herzog in “Fitzcarraldo” and “Aguirre”. The way that these artists explored and romanticised ideas of the unknown were the trigger for the creation of the sounds heard in “Ficciones Del Trópico\".\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eUsing a Yamaha CS-60 Synthesizer, Molero creates an enigmatic and utopian voyage inspired by the tropical and exotic desire of European’s first contact with these foreign and unexplored sites. For his first record, he wanted to create soundscapes for the wilderness reminiscent of the European explorers that faced the unknown and beyond of the Amazon forest in the 19th century.
