"'Undercurrent' is a collection of 9 soundworks, that combine Paul Garcia Stone's interest in place (field recordings) and the use of very physical sounds.

Paula is visual artist (with a long relationship with drawing) and a sound artist. whose work often concentrates on enhancing the small and microscopic.

'Over the last 30+ years my work has evolved through painting and lightwork installations to digital imaging and an exploration of nano sounds. It has been based on visualising and hearing the mysterious internal workings of our bodies. And the aestheticizing of viscera. We are in an age when our view of'the figure' in art is being completely changed by science and technology. More recently, my work in the field of soundscape goes further into the human experience, by exploring the spirit of being in a particular space or situation. Daily drawing is also a current preoccupation'"

Using his four-track recorder Larson piles up the simple phrases of his guitar into dense enveloping washes of juddering mesmerising sound. While the above case histories may have led one to expect something rather noisy and unkempt, this music has quite a professional sheen, is expertly performed, and not too many bumps in the road; despite label notes claiming a “punky DIY texture” in the music, many tracks are more like a bedroom version of Frippertronics – which is actually a good avenue to be exploring.
