Full Spectrum:

"Full Spectrum Records is pleased to present 'Dunning-Kruger Effect,' a new album from long-time label associate Gil Sansón.

Intended as the closure of a trilogy of releases that began with 2021's 'Impostor Syndrome' and continued with last year's 'Confirmation Bias,' 'Dunning-Kruger Effect' continues to mine the surrealist free folk and kitchen sink concrète aesthetics that have defined this body of work thus far, whilst crystallizing its narrative themes and taking stock of the project's perceived successes and failures.

Conceived during the early days of the COVID-19 lockdown thanks to an invitation from Jon Abbey to participate in the digitally published AMPLIFY series, which gathered many in the experimental music community at the time, the earliest recordings for this series served as a sort of reaction to the demise of “grand narratives” and their subsequent fracturing into a “a time of fragments.” Gil decided to lean into this perspective, focusing on the fragment or unpolished idea and developing a newly reflective creative approach without the safety net of given structures or ideas.

“The whole process requires doing little thinking apart from the editing, when things are more goal oriented,” Sansón explains in the album's liner notes. “But still, nothing that interferes too much with the basic premise that the material itself be the guide and dictate the proceedings, quick decision making, pauses from work when the ears get tired, don't stop while the iron is hot, in short, not much different to what a painter experiments during the process of making a painting. With some luck and effort, you get a bit wiser, a bit more daring, and a bit more caring.”

Come spend some time on Sansón's work bench with us. You might just learn a thing or two…
