"This record is a different approach to the autobiographical "confession." I wanted to stitch together some important sketches in self-understanding and forgiveness, a design that may seem emotionally disjointed. But they're actually quite interconnected. My intention (as with previous recordings) is to challenge the listener to follow the contours of the story (or lack thereof). It includes sound, excerpts from authors I admire, ethnographic methods, salvaged and recycled audio/text notes, photographs from personal and public archives, and research-driven fiction. sources reveal the eponymous "whiplash" as they expand and collapse into each other.“Whiplash” for me means a refracted ambivalence toward what was once real, an endless cycle of rectifying where “home” was, and an unstable self-establishment of self in the wake of slowly releasing trauma.
