The Danish ambient label Philery Tapes has arrived for the first time in Japan.
This work is a CD released by Phinery in May 2020 by Vancouver acoustician Karl Fousek, who has also released it from Dinzu Artefacts and others.Includes 5 collage ambient songs using modular.Digipak specifications are already out of print.

"Established as a key voice in modern synthesizer music, Karl Fousek's focus lies on the sense of movement inherent in his modular. And it is indeed'movement', along with its close cousin'time', that seems to inform the pure experimentalism with sound Fousek's tones flurry back and forth across and inside each other, with the Canadian composer oscillating between the macro and micro gestures of his instrument to create a sonic sculpture in constant motion. Fousek himself describes it as an album made. in transition: “It's kind of a reflection of my past work and taste and techniques, while also trying to move forward.”
Unusually for Fousek, these three pieces were recorded at separate times, straddling a period of transition as the artist left Montreal to move back west to Vancouver.
The album's opening 18-minute exploration,'What Was Once Or Twice', was recorded in Seattle, and is split into two movements. The first sees Fousek introduce a variety of whooshes, bleeps, and frozen tones, and the second sends them spiralling The entire piece is built around a custom software delay out of control, and receding back into the outer reaches of his setup, short circuiting and colliding into mind bending new forms that seem to fold space-time. network that “reacts automatically and changes itself based on the incoming signal”.
The brief interlude at the center of the record –'Circling' – dates further back to 2016 and deploys those embryonic delay techniques Fousek would later develop, while the second two-parter dates to Montreal in 2018. Constructed from noisier jams, “Time For Another User ”is dense with ideas; an attempt to make a“ classic ”electroacoustic composition devoid of narrative and structure. Algorithms and spontaneity are deployed to encourage maximum disruption, making it a sonic smorgasbord that rewards close listens. Every modest, Fousek views it differently.'Hopefully,' he says,'it just floats by.'"

When I listen, I feel the crunchiness and static of being-in-the-world as it is mediated by time. Without us knowing, our devices capture sounds we may have missed the first time around. And they land like a sucker punch, snapping us back to the present, tuning our attention to what surrounds us.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eTrue presence in any given moment is one of the most difficult things to cultivate and sustain. When it is offered, I treasure it like a rare gift. Listening to Doubles, I sink into the generosity of Duffy and Uhlmann’s offerings. In songs like “Glacial Fanfare,” I whisper to myself: it hurts now and it’s gonna hurt more, but then it’s gonna stop hurting. In “Euphoric Recall,” I understand how even the worst storms can offer gentleness. In “Braid,” I know trust is about bodies in contact, feet hitting the ground day after day. I return to the urgent question posed in the title of the track: “Which One Is You?” The answer is a low steady bass marked by chaotic and bright fluctuations of sound. The sonic response leaves me knowing: Both. All.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe intimacy in these songs dances like shadows - providing relief even as they slip away. I want to put this music in my pocket and hold it in my palm like a worn down stone. When it is offered, I treasure it like a rare gift. Listening to Doubles, I sink into the generosity of Duffy and Uhlmann’s offerings. In songs like “Glacial Fanfare,” I whisper to myself: it hurts now and it’s gonna hurt more, but then it’s gonna stop hurting. In “Euphoric Recall,” I understand how even the worst storms can offer gentleness. In “Braid,” I know trust is about bodies in contact, feet hitting the ground day after day. I return to the urgent question posed in the title of the track: “Which One Is You?” The answer is a low steady bass marked by chaotic and bright fluctuations of sound.
