Edition of 70.

Hotham Sound Recordings:

"For music listeners in BC, Michael Red needs no introduction. Founder of the Low Indigo label, ambient artist under the name Souns, one half of LA FE and Chambers, former collaborator with throat singer Tanya Tagaq, long standing Bass Coast resident, founding member of Lighta! Sound - his reputation as one of BC's hardest working electronic artists precedes him. In collaboration with labels like Isla, Modern Math, Beacon Sound, New Kanada, Mutek Recordings, Debacle, and Subtempo, Red has built up a dizzyingly eclectic and fearlessly experimental discography. With the release of Gateways, he adds Hotham Sound to that list, and fittingly so, as this is one of the most powerfully 'BC-centric' works of ambient music we've ever encountered.

Originally commissioned as accompaniment for a dance performance by Olivia C. Davies, Gateways exists here in expanded form, with four additional pieces added by the artist as a further expression of his original intent. Restricting himself to an extremely limited palette of processed chimes, synth tones, and field recordings, Red has created a kind of aural equivalent of what it feels like to exist in the Cascadian environment. Gateways is an out-of-body journey through the micro and macro of the pacific northwest, drifting slowly from one primordial element to another; rain to tree, tree to soil, soil to river, river to sea. the breathing of the world itself. "
