In March 2023, Belgian experimental musician Amber Meulenijzer will launch the label of Antwerp-based experimental musician Lieven Martens aka Dolphins Into The Future.A cassette released from Edições CN with a limited edition of 150.

It is a live recording with a local fanfare band that she presented at the sound art festival "OORtreders" held in Limburg, Holland. Comes with DL code.

Below is a commentary by the label.

"In October 2022, Musica Impulscentrum invited Amber Meulenijzer to compose a collaboration with local fanfare bands in Pelt, a small municipality in the east of Belgium. These fanfare bands are deeply rooted in Belgian culture. You can find at least one, if not several, of these ensembles in even the smallest village.

Out of this confluence was the slow-tempo, moving piece for brass, 'procession', played live and over 900 speakers mounted on top of an old Saab 12.

This work was presented at the sound art festival "OORtreders" held twice a year. The happening, which started at 2am, passed through Pelt and ended at the Dommelhof, the local cultural center where the festival was held.During the procession, the musicians improvised with the same timbre as continuous chords played from the loudspeakers mounted on the slow-moving Saab cars.Sounds are stretched, music is slowed down, and habits are broken in search of the possibilities of each instrument and player.Organically moving soundpieces breathe in and out in the morning fog.

Slow moving sounds enter your senses.People join the march by following their ears.A spontaneous tableau is formed. It is a sight that gives a glimpse of a part of the tradition of the land. But something is wrong.A Roy Anderson-esque eeriness fills the space, and the smell of burning gasoline slowly adds flavor to the work.Is this a funeral parade?Or are we waiting for the arrival of something we haven't seen yet? Edições CN:

"In October 2022 Musica Impulscentrum invited Amber Meulenijzer to make a composition in collaboration with the local fanfare bands of Pelt, a small municipality in the green east of Belgium. These fanfare bands are deeply rooted in Belgian culture. Even in the tiniest villages one finds at at least one or several of these ensembles.

The result of this confluence: a procession, a slow paced moving composition for brass instruments, performed both live and played back through twelve speakers mounted on top of an old Saab 900.

The composition was presented during the bi-annual OORtreders festival for sound art. Starting at 9am, the happening meandered trough Pelt, ending at Dommelhof, the local cultural center where the festival took place. During the procession the musicians improvised in the same tonalities as the continuous chord played trough the speakers mounted on the slow-moving Saab car. Notes are stretched, music is slowed down and habits are broken in search of the possibilities of each instrument and player. An organic moving soundpiece, breathing in and out through the morning fog.

The slow moving sound enters the senses. People join the march by following their ears. A spontaneous tableau forms. A scene that could be part of a local tradition. Yet something is off. of burned gasoline slowly adds its flavor to the piece. Is this a funeral parade - in major chords? Or are we waiting for the arrival of something yet to be determined?"
