Contained within the 8 pieces are styles ranging from chaotic free jazz to introspective and almost tender pieces where Nebbia and Shiroishi articulate a deep and emotional framework to carry the listener into melancholic dreams. These tender songs buffer some of the more atonal, avant garde selections. There is also an almost playful piece where Nebbia and Shiroishi lay down some beautiful solos over Goff’s polyrhythmic drumming. In March 2022, Kevin Cheli (drums), Jessica Ackerley (guitar), and Gahlord Dewald (upright bass) joined forces for a one-off recording session in Manoa Valley, O'ahu. This was a first-time meeting between all three musicians who had only been acquainted in real life between brief periods of social chit chat at shows and parks. But a mutual love for experimenting and spontaneous musical conversations made them want to jump on the chance to play together when Cheli briefly visited Hawai'i where Ackerley and Dewald are based. The resulting documentation explores the varying degrees of musical expression within an improvised realm.
