Daniel Teruggi // Sphæra LP

This is a record released by Daniel Teruggi, an experimental musician in Paris, France, from RECOLLECTION GRM in January 2023. Comes with DL code.Below is a commentary by the author himself.

From 1984 to 1989, my acoustic research focused on processing and fusing four basic materials.Each "element" was gradually connected with the others, crystallizing my subjective perception of its materiality.Over the years, aided by the zeal of a Greek friend who had propelled me into the world of Socrates, what was initially a path of inquiry became a circular, spherical unity, each event representing one of the four substances. At the same time as belonging to the one, it also came to belong to the whole.

These four sections vary in length, embodying the different resonances that each 'element' has in my imagination.Their movements are compositionally ordered and range from the inorganicity of the air to the extreme densities of the Earth.

At Eterea, the dual nature of air, a space for the propagation of sound and an environment for the moving masses, has shaped the development of the work and its forms.Whether it is the vast expanse of particles as organized movement or the displacement of sound sources in our three-dimensional perception, ethereal air fills space and drives immaterial movements and gestures.

Aquatica places the materiality of water in relation to its amazing extremes.An extensive journey unfolds through different phases of reconstructed liquids, from droplets to oceans.Still waters, deadly waters, and raging waters follow each other until the aerial merging of the primordial equilibrium is restored.

Then comes Focolaria and the Unstable Fire, the elusive wild wizards who open and decorate the gates to the underworld.

There is no atmosphere in the land of Terra, and there is matter before the birth of life.The primordial sound of matter merges and evolves into a purer form.It triggers a movement towards a new balance of power for the ultimate fusion, the final attempt at the birth of life.

The sphere is complete and the world is ready for creation...

"Between 1984 and 1989, my acousmatic work was focused on processing and merging the four fundamental substances. Over the years, helped by the enthusiasm of a Greek A friend who propelled me into the Socratic universe, what started out as an exploratory path has become a circular, spherical unity, in which each occurrence simultaneously belongs to one of the four substances as well as the whole.

These four sections, of uneven durations, embody the different resonances of each « element » upon my imagination.

In Eterea, the dual nature of air, a space for the dissemination of sounds and an environment for mobile masses, shaped the work and the development of its forms. Whether it be the vast expanse of particles as organized movement or the displacement of sources in our three-dimensional perception, ethereal air fills the space and drives the immaterial motions and gestures.

Aquatica locates the materiality of water in relation to its amazing extremes: from the drop to the ocean, an extensive journey unfolds through the various phases of the reinvented liquid. Still waters, deadly waters, raging waters follow one another, leading to the aerial fusion of a primordial equilibrium eventually retrieved.

Then comes Focolaria and the unsteady fires, the elusive and wild will-o'-the-wisps that open and adorn the gates leading to the depths of the earth.

The land of Terra is devoid of atmosphere, a land of matters before the advent of life. The sounds of the original matter merge and evolve into purer forms. The motions trigger progressions towards new equilibriums of forces, the ultimate fusion, the very last attempt , needed for the emergence of life.

The sphere is now complete, the world ready for creation…"
