This record was released by British ambient composer Dylan Henner in June 2024 by the ambient label dauw in Ghent, Belgium.

As the title suggests, this album contains six drowsy ambient tracks that are a reinterpretation of Raymond Scott's work "Soothing Sounds for Baby." DL code included. 6g heavy vinyl.

Below is a commentary by the label.

Dylan Henner (AD 93, Phantom Limb) returns to dauw with a new album, "Performs Raymond Scott's Soothing Sounds for Baby," which reinterprets a selection of Raymond Scott's classic works from 1962.

Raymond Scott's legacy to this world is immense. But when viewed through the lens of what we now understand as "ambient" music, one might say that the meaning of his compositions has changed since those early days. Now we (whether mistakenly or not) see them as archival or documentary works preserving the era of early electronic music and the capabilities and limitations of the technology of the time. It has become an artifact, a means to an end. So Dylan Henner, with great respect for Scott's vision and talent, wanted to create a version of what Scott left us, recontextualizing the same ideas to the mindset and studio of a musician in 2024, consistent with Henner's own recognition of the purpose of this music: to soothe babies. He went back to the original records only once or twice, transcribing melodies and taking notes on timbre."

The following is a commentary by the writer himself.

"Making this album, I didn't want to borrow too much from Scott's work, because his music is something I can't touch creatively or culturally, but I wanted to offer my baby (and the babies of all the parents who listen to this record) something healing and meaningful in my own way."

Dauw:

"Dylan Henner (AD 93, Phantom Limb) returns to Dauw with 'performs Raymond Scott's Soothing Sounds for Baby', a new album where he reinterprets a selection of Raymond Scott's iconic work originally released in 1962. The album will be released on May 31 and will be available on limited edition vinyl and digital. Artwork is provided by Skrew Studio in reference to the original releases.

Raymond Scott's contributions to our world are immeasurable and pioneering, and his records still sound totally unique. But one could say that, viewed through the lens of what we now understand to be "ambient" music, the meaning of his compositions have changed since their inception. Now, we (mistakenly or not) see them as archival or documentarian pieces preserving an era of early electronic music and the capabilities and limitations of the technology of its time. It has become an artefact, a means to an end. So, with huge reverence to Scott's foresight and genius, Dylan Henner wanted to recontextualise those same ideas into the mindset and studio of a musician in 2024, to create a version of what Scott left us that corresponds with Henner's own perception of this music's purpose: soothing baby. He returned to the original records only once or twice, transcribing melodies and taking notes on timbre, before setting off on his own journey.

"I didn't want to take too much from Scott or his music, as it is untouchable, both creatively and culturally. But I wanted to offer my baby (and any babies whose parents play this record) something soothing and meaningful of my own." Dylan Henner
