Below is an explanation by the author himself. "There is a small garden in my father's house where I lived when I was a child. The garden is on the third floor of the house. My father and mother always watered it, but this year, my father and mother are getting older. Now, the number of plants has increased so much that it becomes difficult to care for them. Moreover, the roots are growing out of the pots, and the weight of them is threatening to break the floor. So my father told me to organize the garden and do some maintenance work. I asked them to move the plants and empty pots. The garden is a meaningful place for me. This is a cassette independently released in March 2024 by experimental musicians Beachers from London, England. "The only sound on 'Off the hook' is the phone at my day job. Late at night, after everyone had gone home, I was finishing something, and the sound came from everywhere. It cut the air for a moment. Then it suddenly stopped. Then I heard a series of beeps, like someone was dialing. I was surprised at first, but then I saw the papers on my work desk. While you're at it, you realize you've taken your phone off the hook.This routine of a hold tone followed by a fake dial doesn't work when you pick up the phone. Maybe trying to get attention, maybe to fill an awkward silence, I took the phone off the hook and put it back on, recording it in and out of my office in central London. The same routine was recorded, with additional noise added, and the recording was cut, moved, and processed to create the eight tracks of Off the Hook, but nothing else was done. I haven't added anything. It's mostly delays and pitch shifts. The last track is a full playback of the original phone call. It feels appropriate to me, the phone call itself, the situation, and the location. There's something. But I'm not sure what it said.
