American-born Taiwanese ambient artist who also appeared in the Tobira in-store showcaseRyan J RaffaThis is a cassette released by the post-new age duo Reign of Ferns, created by Andrew Weathers, head of the Texas experimental label Full Spectrum, on the Texas ambient label Aural Canyon in May 2024.

Contains 5 post-new age ambient to ambient downtempo songs. DL code included. Don't miss this opportunity as the original edition will be sold out immediately.

Below is an explanation by Ryan J Raffa.

"I go for long runs along the Keelung River early in the morning. I leave the house at 5 a.m. In the early morning, the lights of the paths shine softly on the dark streets with the shadows of people walking with stray dogs. People catch their breaths and do Tai Chi exercises. I do various exercises. When the sun rises, there are quiet moments when all the lights on the path go out.I can't believe how many times I stop to think and am illuminated by the slight rays of the rising sun. I look up at the light in the water vapor and click. All the lights go out. Maybe I'm looking for the word "creepy" because it feels good when that happens. Is it because in the darkest moments of the morning, when you allow your shadowed, vulnerable self to show up for just a moment, you feel warmly welcomed, filled with compassion and deep understanding? What I want to express with this music is a place in between. "

Artist statement:

"I go for long runs along the Keelung River early in the morning. I'm out the door by 5am. This early in the morning, there is a soft glow of pathway lights in the dark streets with stray dogs and shadows of people walking, shuffling, shaking, breathing and doing various exercises in the form of tai chi. There is this quiet moment as the sun rises when all of the pathway lights turn off. It's incredible how many times I'll pause my thoughts, look up at the lights slightly in the lit vapor of the rising sun, and then click. All the lights go out. Is the word "uncanny" that I'm looking for because it feels good when that happens? That it feels warm and welcoming, full of compassion and deep knowing when it's the darkest moment of the morning, when my own shadowy, vulnerable self allows itself to be seen for just a moment? It's that in-between place I'm looking to reside and discuss with this music."
