---------------------------------

"Gritty new age bodymelt soundtracks and hermetic experiments recorded live-to-tape at Cathedral ii, Cedar Village except A4, A6, B1 recorded at du Parc and St Urbain in Montreal and B5 recorded in Little Haiti Miami.

Originally released as a tour-only tape in September 2019, newly mastered for this edition by Nathan Taylor.

"Peace be upon those who betrayed us: the expression did not scare them, and if we ruin our vocabulary, fix their intentions." --Unknown (Machine Translation)

'Temporally uncertainties abound in Secret Boyfriend's "Memory Care Unit II", striking a sublime slurring of musical and experiential liminalities. Largely based upon minimal repetitive structures, the thirteen tracks journey between melodic synthesizer lines and microsound sample looping. But there is always a ghostly hand present --deeper listening yields a stunning depth to each tone as well as an arching compositional narrative. Not just focused on the nostalgic degradations of analog technology, Secret Boyfriend also highlights errors found at the edges of digital sound reproduction, seamlessly blurring'the organic 'and' the synthetic'. These imperfections are drawn into liturgically-inclined Washes, even when collapsed into staccato granular rhythms. While often drawing upon soaring New Age timbres, an underlying dread pervades too --highlighted with a piece consisting of tape-loop phasing of a scream at the start of the second half of the album. Existing At once as "timeless" and "topical", it can be heard as environmental music, or as a meticulous artistic statement, or any suspension between. All are welcome into "Memory Care Unit II".'
--Glyn Maier

"[Our] crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born, ... In this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear. "--Antonio Gramsci"
