This CD was released in February 2022 by the acoustic artist Tarab from Melbourne, Australia, on the French experimental label Ferns Recordings in a limited edition of 2 copies. The following is a commentary by the writer himself.

From 2019 to 2021, I announced three installations.Instead of sharing the expression of things, spaces, and borrowed acts in the form of recordings, we sought to shape spaces and situations with sounds and rooms, things, and spectators.Understanding space as being shaped by its use, not as physical, raises the somewhat rhetorical or bizarre question of whether space is shaped by sound. Is it possible for one space to be shaped in another?

However, "ROOMS" is not intended to serve as a direct record of these installations, while referring to them.Rather, it was created to explore some of the ideas and methods that came from that process in a space formed by a pair of stereo speakers installed in another room. This work is not intended to be a re-presentation of these constructed spaces, but rather to be its own listening space in the listener's room and ears.

The recorded audio material is perceptible surface, texture, depth, traces of place or action, points of space, vibration of speaker cones and microphones, resonating objects that act as small sound containers in large containers, air. It is explored as the movement of the speaker, the ever-changing collection of viewpoints, the traces left behind, and the transition of the collected and stirred debris.Recorded sounds are collected and understood as partial, fragmentary and incomplete.

Although ROOMS is a construct, it is not an abstraction or a re-presentation, but is presented as an intermediate between the two. It's a changing, ringing element, interaction of things, and an assembly.

Artist statement by Eamon Sprod

"Between 2019 and 2021 I presented three installations. Seeking to move away from sharing borrowed representations of things, spaces and actions in the form of recordings, to instead shape spaces or situations with sounds and rooms, things and an audience. If we understand space not as physical, but as shaped through use, it raises the somewhat rhetorical or even quixotic question: can a space be shaped by sound? Can one space be shaped inside another?

However, ROOMS is not intended to act as a straight document of these installations, despite drawing heavily upon them. Rather, it has been made to explore some of the ideas and methods which emerged from the process, within the space formed by a pair of It is not intended as a re-presentation of those assembled spaces, but works towards being its own listening space within the rooms and ears of a listener.

Recorded audio material is explored as a shifting series of perceivable surfaces, textures and depths; traces of places and actions; points in space; vibration of speaker cone and microphone diaphragm; a constant shifting set of perspectives; the traces that are left behind; debris gathered up and pawed over. Recorded sound is gathered and understood as partial, fragmentary, incomplete.

While ROOMS is a construction, it is presented not quite as an abstraction nor as a re-presentation, but as a form of both-ness or an inbetween-ness; somehow inside-out and outside-in. An interaction or assemblage of shifting , sounding elements and things. "
