"Remotely Together presents new work by claire rousay & Morita Vargas, Maria Chavez & Valentina Magaletti and KMRU, who did remote residencies in the 2021 online edition of rewire. During the COVID-19 lockdown, Rewire is Initiating collaborations between disparate artists within the city, connecting them from remote locations and exploring new creative methods both online and in isolation.The audio-visual results of these residencies will be presented in the 2021 online edition of the festival. We are pleased to announce that some of these performances will be newly edited and released.

Comprised of a compelling mix of ambient, noise, field recordings and experimental sound art, Remotely Together brings together the North American percussionist and improviser.claire rousay yi and argentinian vocalistMorita Vargas's collaboration song starts with a scene where footsteps echo in the meadow.Mixing field recordings, everyday sounds, and deep electronics, rousay's textures and Vargas' mysterious vocals are fused together to create an enchanting music that gradually draws the listener into the mysterious sound world.

Meanwhile, New York-based turntablist Maria Chavez and renowned Italian percussionistCollaborated with Valentina Magaletti, "Particle" features hypnotic textures and dreamy percussion that seems to move forward and slowly evolve into a rich, heavy free jazz piece.

Kenyan sound artist KMRU has teamed up with Dutch filmmaker Donna Verheijden for an online residency. MicroVerse mixes field recordings, captivating noises, and improvisational performances, creating impressive works in which the seemingly calm sounds of the natural world melt into drone-like artificial noises.

Jonathan Castro Alejos, a graphic designer born in Peru and living in Amsterdam, designed the artwork for Remotely Together.The work is a sculptural record of unnoticed urban gestures between Amsterdam and Lima during the pandemic, further reinforcing the relationships of isolation and interconnection explored in Rewire's remote residence. "Remotely Together introduces new works by claire rousay & Morita Vargas, Maria Chavez & Valentina Magaletti, and KMRU, all commissioned through remote residencies for Rewire's 2021 - online edition. In the midst of COVID-19 lockdowns, Rewire initiated these collaborations between disparate artists from all over the world, connecting them remotely to explore new creative practices both online and in isolation. The audiovisual results of these residencies were presented during the online edition of the 2021 festival. Newly edited versions of a selection of these performances have now been compiled for this release.

Featuring an enthralling mix of ambient, noise, field recording, and experimental sound art, the scene of Remotely Together is set by the crunching sounds of footsteps over a grassy environment on atmospheric opener Humo De Margatina Dulce, a collaborative song between North American percussionist and improviser claire rousay and Argentinian vocalist Morita Vargas. rousay's textural mix of field recordings, everyday sounds, and deep electronics coalesce with Vargas's ethereal vocals, paving the way for compelling music that gradually draws its listeners deeper into its mysterious soundworld.

Meanwhile, New York–based turntablist Maria Chavez and celebrated Italian percussionist Valentina Magaletti collaborate on Particle, featuring hypnotic textures and dreamlike percussion that seems to sonically propel itself forward, slowly expanding into a rich and layered work of stretched-out free jazz.

During his online residency, Kenyan sound artist KMRU teamed up with Dutch filmmaker Donna Verheijden. MicroVerse showcases his evocative mixing of field recordings, entrancing noise, and improvisation, resulting in a piece where the seemingly gentle sounds of the natural world begin to blend in with the artificial muck of droning noise.

Peruvian-born and Amsterdam-based graphic designer Jonathan Castro Alejos has designed the artwork of Remotely Together.

Presented on vinyl and as digital, Remotely Together further solidifies Rewire's ambition to function as a dedicated platform for the launching and supporting of adventurous and experimental music. Operating as a label that works closely with artists on the releases of original and commissioned music allows new ways of helping and presenting artists outside of the festival and year-round events.

Remotely Together is available Friday 2 June 2023 on LP and digital platforms. The visual counterparts – including Donna Verheijden's video work for MicroVerse – that originally premiered during the 2021 - online edition of Rewire will be made available via our video channels.
