French experimental strange beats writer The Dead Mauriacs, who has released on Discrepant in the past, released a record in February 2023 on the experimental label Calax in Tokyo.Below is an explanation by the label.

The Dead Mauriacs is a project by French artist Olivier Prieur, and this work ``Paravents et miroirs, une cérémonie'' is an LP that was released live in 2017.
The Dead Mauriacs describe their music as "Exotica Concrete".In this work as well, he uses field recordings he collects on a daily basis, as well as a collection of various sounds such as piano, Indian harmonium, violin, ukulele, didgeridoo, pieces of wood, glass, paper, metal plates, etc. It is a magnificent 1950-minute sound collage that combines samples of Exotica music represented by musicians and arrangers such as Les Baxter and Arthur Lyman who were popular in the 40s.
”Exotica is also connected to mass tourism, mass entertainment and mass consumerism. Arthur Lyman has made about 10 records in Waikiki in 30 years. The dome was owned by the owner of the hotel where they played every night, and the performances were performed at night to avoid noise problems. , is a simple yet flawless piece of music, yet possessing an enchanting melody and arousing intellectual interest. It has become a music that is easily criticized these days, but it is the Italian music of the 60s and 70s. Like a movie, it is an imaginary in itself.”
