Bogdan Jankowski (1938-2019) participated in many historic mountaineering expeditions in Poland led by Andrzej Zawada. At first he mainly participated as a mountaineer, but later on he was often in charge of radio communication at exhibitions. He brought back countless photographs and recordings. Each time, they brought back dozens of hours of recordings, most of which were records of the journey. They consist of radio communications and occasional speeches. But in his spare time between expeditions, Bogdan Jankowski listened to the reality of the space around him: the mountains, the people who lived there, and the sounds of their daily lives. This part of the archive consists of field recordings of local music, prayers, and ambient sounds. 'Himalaya and Karakoram • Voices from the Mountains' is a selection of Bogdan Jankowski's most interesting recordings, starting with his first expedition to Kunyan Chis in 1971 and ending with his last expedition in 2002/2003, when he took part in the K2 expedition. is recorded. The caravan travels from the lowlands to base camp, through increasingly sparse villages and pastoral huts, ice climbing, summit attempts, and finally into the valley and back to civilization.

They are not only an extraordinary testimony of Polish Himalayan climbing culture, but they also establish the foundations for field recordings in Poland."
