"Reyna Tropical's long-awaited debut full-length album, Malegría, is both a vibrant arrival and a shocking bridge. This port was born from Manu Chao's 1998 song of the same name. Manto, which means bittersweet, is a blend of the Spanish words "mal", which means "bad", and "alegría", which means "happy".It is a monumental work that marked Reyna's transition from a duo to a solo career. The album is a contemporary celebration and continuation of a wide range of cultural traditions, from Congolese, Peruvian, and Colombian rhythms to revolutionary artists like lesbian guitarist-singer Chavela Vargas. Crosses themes of queer love, feminine sensuality, and the transformative power of an intentional relationship with the earth, highlighting stories often pushed to the margins and offering them a sonic home. ."
