Kinshasa's DJ Finale, a member of the Fulu Miziki band in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a longtime eco-activist collective making experimental rhythm music out of recycled waste, dives into his country's history to create a brave hybrid dance sound. devising. Based on the popular template of soukous (quassa kwassa), a sound that evolved from the rhythms of Cuban rumba and the flexible emotions of jazz in the mid-20th century,Finale represents Kinshasa, a hotspot of musical fusion and innovation.

Soukous was initially played on traditional instruments, but Finale takes a minimal electronic approach, blending familiar rhythms into Congolese trad-modern styles such as the dombolo. Basss30 carves swinging beats over bursts of white noise and acid synth sounds. Pitschu Debou welcomes Fulu Miziki's Deboul on vocals and inserts Soukes' guitar riffs into a rough neo-trap frame. "Tobandi" is industrial, and like "Islamic Gouz," it's for late night/early club sets, made up of dangerous explosions of growling electronics and jerk-con-goal rhythms.
