This is an audio documentary work using sound poetry, field recording, and modular technology. DL code included.

Below is a commentary by the label.

"Ahti & Ahti are Finnish sound artists.Duo of Marja Ahti and Niko-Matti Ahti.Operating within the musique concrète tradition, their work combines recordings of spaces, events, beings and objects, carefully arranged in associative ways.

"Nokivesi (Soot-Water)" incorporates sound montages and clipped dialogue, along with instruments and electronic sounds, fusing the complexity of field-recorded sounds with the sensibilities of songwriting.Originally created as a radiophonic piece for the 2020 Oscillations Radio Marathon, this work tells the story of a person living isolated on a remote island through two voices, both tragic and comic. It outlines the fragmentary stories that are told. The hermit kept in touch with neighboring residents, stimulating their curiosity and imagination even though they lived far from mainstream society.

This story forms the basis for a musical work that combines acoustic sound and documentary, using various field recordings related to the theme, modular synthesizers, and digital processing to create a sonic environment consisting of a number of individual musical parts. These parts are interrupted intermittently, but are connected by the voices of two old men. "Ahti & Ahti is the duo of Finnish sound artists Marja Ahti and Niko-Matti Ahti. Operating on the fringes of the musique concrète tradition, their work combines recordings of spaces and events, beings and objects, carefully aligned in an associative way.

Nokivesi (soot-water) embraces sound montage and cut up conversations alongside instrumental and electronic sound, combining the complexity of the field-recorded sounds and compositional sensitivity. Originally created as a radiophonic piece for the Oscillations Radio Marathon in 2020, the piece outlines a fragmented story told by two voices about a person living isolated on a remote island, a tragic and comic figure. The hermit kept in touch with the nearby residents, but he also stimulated their curiosity and imagination living apart from the mainstream society.

The story lays the foundation to a musical work that combines acoustic sound and documentary, utilizing a variety of thematically associated field recordings, modular synthesizers and digital processing in order to create a sonic environment that consists of a number of discrete musical parts. These parts are intermittently interrupted, but also connected by the voices of two elderly persons."
