After years of preparation, the recital presents the 12th International Sound Poetry Festival box set. The 1980 New York festival was the last in this pioneering series that began in Stockholm in the 1960s. It is an ambitious document containing nearly 30 hours of audio from 5 artists.Also included is a 240-page book of biographies, texts and artwork for each artist, accompanied by program notes by Charlie Morrow and Sean McCann.

The ten-day festival brought together a battalion of soundpoets from around the world to share the stage at Manhattan's Washington Square Church.Established soundpoets are juxtaposed with lesser-known artists, some of them more enthusiastic.Carles Santos, John Giorno, and the Four Horsemen, for example, deliver an onslaught of words.And Bernard Heidschek, in "Democratie II", his cries and groans can be heard swaying on walls and ceilings, increasing in intensity as if he were shouting at the French Parliament in the Luxembourg Palace.Allison Knowles presents a theatrical ensemble reading (with bean playing), and Robert Joseph and Pierre van Dyck's understated concept pieces for voices and book page-turning sounds are of particular interest. was.

"After years of preparation, Recital is proud to present the 12th Annual International Sound Poetry Festival box set. Held in New York in 1980, this was the last festival of the pioneering series, first started in Stockholm in the 1960s. This ambitious document holds nearly five hours of audio from 30 artists. A 240-page book with biographies, texts, and artwork from each artist supplements the edition, including program notes by Charlie Morrow and Sean McCann.

The 10-day festival collected a battalion of sound poets from around the globe to share the stage at Washington Square Church in Manhattan. Both established sound poets are juxtaposed with more obscure artists, some more fervent than others. Carles Santos, John Giorno, and The Four Horsemen, for example, convey a verbal onslaught.
