Digital sketch for "string instruments" One morning I came up with the idea of ​​composing for string instruments. The timbre of a stringed instrument is constantly transforming between changing intonations. The rising and falling spectrum of various sonorities builds a pulsating, living whole. The gestural and perceptual quality of the stringed collection would exist somewhere between glacial and constant movement. In the end, I used sawtooth waves instead of string samples or acoustic instruments. Spectral Mask Room Construction This work explores audio perception and onset partials in spectral masking. I started with woodblock print samples. For me, the harsh yet beautiful impact sound of woodblock prints is complex. This short sound acts as a very noticeable and frightening sound cue. After listening to a single strike for many hours and performing a thorough spectral analysis, I began to hear and understand that the complex material complex of a strike extends beyond its short temporal lifespan. became. Bursts now exist as impulse responses. With each keystroke, the woodblock material conveyed information about the space in which it existed for the recording. The room where the wood was struck became part of the audible sound material, just like wood hitting each other. In order to synthesize the sound of the woodblock print from scratch, I decided to examine the attack and decay times of each partial in detail. Based on the results of spectral analysis, I composed the song focusing on the first short note. The pitches that make up the fundamental and overtones of the sample were extracted in various clusters and used to create several types of digital synthesizers. The timing structure of the sampled and synthesized strikes is controlled by a simple count transformation. By doing so, we established a conceptual through line for the variations in keystroke sounds. The many variations of partials that are highlighted or sent into the audio background serve to mimic the "fake" space in which these sounds exist and convey subtle architectural information to the listener.
