Hyunhye Seo // Eel CD

South Korean experimental musician/multi-instrumentalist Hyunhye Seo released a CD in July 2023 from the experimental label Room7 in Brisbane, Australia.

Includes two long-form low-end drone tracks.

The following is a commentary by the writer himself.

"Each year eels come to Sargasso. Infused with life when the sun god Atum warmed the Nile, they are generated in the guts of the earth from the rubbing of rocks and dew drops on the banks of the river and migrate thousands of kilometers to Sargasso to breed.

Its larvae, glass eels, move to freshwater habitats, crawling on land or climbing waterfalls as necessary, and reach their destinations while breathing through their skin.They sometimes eat snakes and birds.Decades later, when they are ready to breed, they stop eating, develop sex organs, and return to Sargasso.If it cannot return to Sargasso, it will never reach full maturity.It just stops aging.

Humans have never seen eels breed.Freud dissected over 400 eels in search of eel testicles.Aristotle thought it grew from worms in the soil.No one knows where the eels go or how they find their way home.

Creatures of mud and rain, fluid in time and age, fearlessly metamorphosing, unknown yet always to be discovered. "

Artist statement by Hyunhye Seo:

"Every year, the eels arrive in Sargasso. The eels that sprang to life when the sun god Atum warmed the Nile, the eels generated within the enrails of the earth, from the rubbing of the rocks and dew drops on riverbanks, they travel thousands of kilometres to Sargasso to breed. 

Their larvae, eels of glass, move to freshwater homes, crawling across land or up waterfalls if necessary, breathing through their skins, to get to where they want to go, although no one knows exactly where or why. 

No human has seen eels breed. Freud dissected over 400 eels in search of eel testicles. Aristotle thought they grew from earthworms in dirt. No one knows why they go where they go, or how they find their way back. 

Creatures of mud and rain, fluid in time and age, unabashed in its metamorphosis, unknown yet always found."
