This CD will be released by Australian ambient artist JWPATON on the Australian experimental label room2023 in December 12.

Contains 5 Lo-Fi ambient drone songs using tape and synth.

The following is a commentary by the writer himself.

"Anyone who knows me knows my obsession with the 1981 film The Thief. The opening scene depicts a cold, methodical diamond heist set in neon light, set to a Tangerine Dream soundtrack. Contrast this with a thief who shares a danish with a stranger fishing in the endless ocean at dawn. Robbery is technical and calculating; fishing is down-to-earth and old-fashioned.

I'm probably unfairly projecting my own personal experiences onto this movie. As time passed, I began to see that the line between these two scenes became more and more blurred.I see the contrasts between night and day, city and sea, drill and rod not as binary oppositions, but as a fusion of worlds that are slowly collapsing into each other.

The selection of songs for this release highlighted ideas I've been returning to for years.Technology and its place in the natural world. How labor and technology shape identity. That my ancestors were more advanced in many ways than today's society.A kind of ancient futurism. "

Artist statement by JWPaton:

"Anyone who knows me, knows my obsession with the 1981 film Thief. The opening scenes show a cold, methodical, neon lit diamond heist soundtracked by Tangerine Dream. Contrasted with, the thief sharing a danish with a stranger fishing on an endless ocean at dawn . The heist is technical and calculated. The fishing is grounded and ancient.

I'm sure that I'm projecting some of my personal experiences onto the film unfairly. As over time i've come to see the line between these two scenes more and more blurred. The contrast between night and day, city and ocean, drill and rod, I see these less as a dichotomy and more as a merging of worlds that slowly collapse in on each other.

Choosing tracks for this release highlighted ideas that I've returned to for years. Technology and its place in the natural world. The way labor and skill shape identity. How my ancestors were in many ways more advanced than the society I live in today. A kind of ancient futurism."
