Swiss downtempo artist HARZ's debut cassette released in May 2022 from the country's experimental/dance label Empty Space, limited to 5 copies.

Contains nine glitch ambient downtempo to floor-standing ambient techno songs improvised using only a vintage sampler, console, and effects loop. DL code included.Out of print.

It is a high quality content that is hard to believe that it is a debut work.Below is an explanation by the label.

"With their debut album, HARZ devoted themselves to the old art of microsampling. Through their clever and innovative use of vintage 12-bit-4kHz samplers, 14-channel mixing consoles and effects loops, HARZ is an early Clicks 'n' An homage to the Cuts and Glitch soundscapes, the album's abstract downtempo grooves are distinguished by their hypnotic rhythms, coupled with glitchy loops and see-saw record noises. It evokes a feeling of floating, and as usual every track is played live with no overdubs or subsequent editing.

The jacket and poster were created in collaboration with Formen. While HARZ's music uses microsampling to reveal hidden details in tones and noise, the jacket is a macro shot of a halftone print that reveals the hidden texture of the image.

mastering tooFormen is in charge.Aside from some digital tweaking, the album was mastered primarily with analog compressors, tube EQs, andMade by Formen's trusted reel-to-reel machine. This approach strongly emphasizes the warm texture of HARZ's music.

The album was transferred to a C-44 cassette tape by a friend of Sinus Dub.Chrome tape is a little more expensive than a regular Type-I cassette, but in exchange for better sound quality due to its wider dynamic range and wider frequency spectrum. "

Empty Space:

"In his debut album, HARZ dedicates himself to the old art of microsampling. Through clever and innovative use of his vintage 12bit-4kHz sampler, his 14 channel mixing console and self-entangled effect loops, HARZ creates an homage to the soundscape of early Clicks 'n' Cuts and Glitch. The album's abstract downtempo groove stands out due to its hypnotic rhythms, which, combined with glitchy loops and seesaw vinyl noise, evoke a feeling of floating. As usual, every track is performed live without overdubs or subsequent editing.

The covers and posters were created and realized in collaboration with Formen. Parallel to HARZ's music which uncovers the hidden details of tone and noise through microsampling, the cover shows a macro shot of a halftone print, thereby uncovering hidden textures of images.

The mastering was also done by Formen. Disregarding some minor digital adjustments, the album was mastered primarily with analog compressors, tube-EQs and Formen's trusty reel-to-reel machine. HARZ's music.

The album has been transferred to C-44 cassettes by our friends at Sinus Dub. This time we chose Type-II, meaning chrome tapes. Those are a bit more expensive than the usual Type-I cassettes but in return offer a higher dynamic range and a broader frequency spectrum, thus resulting in a better sound quality."
