All the necessary elements are present: The enigmatic cover and interior images, the cryptic track titles, and of course the recordings themselves - densely packed and elaborately evolved aberrancies. Shoemaker seems to have provided more than enough clues to the puzzles he offers in his works but, like the most effective tales, these subtle indications cannot quite account for all that happens. Shoemaker seems to have provided more than enough clues to the puzzles he offers in his works but, like the most effective tales, these subtle indications cannot quite account for all that happens. The result of his experimental methods is an intense and heavy take on dark ambient and noise music. "The Earth Has Memory" was recorded during a stay at EMS (Elektronmusikstudion) in Stockholm, and later at a seminar at UNAM. (Block is credited as a co-producer on two songs on the album).The instruments used were mainly Buchla and Nord, which were processed with magnetic tape, and the production gives it a tactile, organic texture. Purely abstract sounds dominate this chronicle, reflecting the mysteries of what lies beneath the earth's surface. Occasional high-pitched tones give the earth a tactile, organic texture. It's like a light glimpsed through the cracks. Low frequencies indicate core pressure, and swaying drones recreate geological movements larger than humanity. The album's cover art was created by Magali Ugarte in Hidalgo. The film is composed of exquisite color photographs taken during a visit with Huerta to the obsidian mines of the United States.The trip was full of discoveries for both women, and the bond between the artists and the discoveries they made. A connection was formed with the minerals. This literal excursion served as the perfect counterpoint to the figurative explorations on which this album was created."
