"Named after a flower that grows on the slopes of a volcano, Ginestra explores destruction, revolution, survival, and reconstruction.
Across six songs, Iranian composer Ava Rasti engulfs us in a complex calm that lurks chaos, eruption, and menace.
Ginestra was created by collecting samples from the canon of Western classical music, including Bach, Sibelius, Beethoven, and Mahler.By composing like this,Rasti claims that his work is an exploration of the violence within beauty and nostalgia, and the revolution within all of us.
She says: "There is violence in beauty in nostalgia, in peace, in history. Inside us there is a revolution about the past of survival. In beauty. There is also a revolution. These works are the result of the destruction of a beautiful moment in history, the emergence of revolution, destruction and reconstruction."
Ginestra is a testament to survival as a form of resistance, a reminder that swirling pressures can exist beneath a veneer of stillness. "
