This cassette was released in August 2023 by ambient artist Stefan Christoff from Montreal, Canada, on the all-genre label Beacon Sound from Portland, USA, in a limited edition of 8 copies.

Includes two solo piano neoclassical ambient jazz pieces recorded in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he has visited many times. DL code included.

Below is a commentary by the label.

"In Sofia", recorded in Bulgaria in August 2022, continues the dialogue with the world of composition and improvisational music within the context of solo piano. Taking cues from the Eastern European mysticism of GI Gurdjieff and the vast improvised solo concerts of Keith Jarrett, Stefan Christoff weaves a tapestry of musical notes, giving listeners space to look within. Both suites unfold slowly, presenting the listener with a rich landscape. It's understandable, considering that even though Stefan Christoff was in unfamiliar territory, it has deep connections to his personal history. "In Sofia" is based on the musical sketches that the artist has cultivated over the years, and evokes an image of a place while reconsidering where one stands in the flow of time.

"Recorded in Bulgaria in August of 2022, 'In Sofia' continues a conversation between the world of composition and improvised music within the context of solo piano. Taking cues from sources such as the Eastern European mysticism of GI Gurdjieff and the long form, improvised solo concerts by Keith Jarrett, Christoff weaves a tapestry of notes allowing the listener a space to look inward. Both suites unfurl slowly, painting rich vistas for the listener to take in. There is a sense of searching and discovery in the music, understandable given the fact that Christoff was in a land unfamiliar yet so connected to his personal history (see artist statement below). Based on musical sketches that the artist had been developing for years, 'In Sofia' conjures evocative images of place while reckoning with where one stands in the river of time."
