Description by Leaving Records:

"Habitat, an environmental music collaboration by Berlin based composer Niklas Kramer and percussionist Joda Foerster, is inspired by the drawings of Italian architect Ettore Sottsass. Each of the eight tracks represents a room in an imaginary building.

In Habitat the duo layers, loops and merges sonic textures and patterns into fluid blocks without the restraint of statics. African log drum, Bolivian chajchas, vibraphone, kalimba and various other percussion instruments are processed, pitched, harmonized and filtered through modular synth and script based sample cutting to form a collage of asynchronous layers.

By using acoustic instruments and expanding their sound into abstract shapes, Habitat evokes a vague intimacy, a curious state of comfort in the unknown. "

I have run into\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ethis issue before with cassette and vinyl sequences, as there\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eis only so much music that can be pressed onto a side.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eIn some cases I have had to edit or omit songs to fit a side\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\" class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eof vinyl.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThey make different lengths, durations of tape, and I considered\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003edifferent track orders for each individual record, but somehow\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003enone of the configurations that I came up with were working\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003efor these to become cassette releases. I then conceived of a\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003esingle tape (C80, 40 minutes a side) that would compile songs\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003efrom these releases with a couple pieces from my previous\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eself-released LP Aurorasmushroomtenderness (2014) and\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ethe one that came before that on (the long defunct) Porter Records\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eAquariusssssss (2012). Matthewdavid and I had always thought\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ethat it would be a good idea for a couple new pieces to come out\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eDigitally in conjunction with the tape releases. In this new concept\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eI was able to start each side with one of the new pieces I had ready.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe title Assortment for Susan's is a living, Loving tribute to our\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eDear Friend and Collaborator Justin Hansohn and his community\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ecompany Anandamide. When I went to figure out where the side breaks\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ewould be in the track sequence, I realized that none of them\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ewould fit very well, due to timing and length. I have run into\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ethis issue before with cassette and vinyl sequences, as there\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eis only so much music that can be pressed onto a side.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eIn some cases I have had to edit or omit songs to fit a side\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\" class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eof vinyl.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThey make different lengths, durations of tape, and I considered\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003edifferent track orders for each individual record, but somehow\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003enone of the configurations that I came up with were working\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003efor these to become cassette releases. I then conceived of a\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003esingle tape (C80, 40 minutes a side) that would compile songs\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003efrom these releases with a couple pieces from my previous\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eself-released LP Aurorasmushroomtenderness (2014) and\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ethe one that came before that on (the long defunct) Porter Records\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eAquariusssssss (2012). Matthewdavid and I had always thought\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ethat it would be a good idea for a couple new pieces to come out\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eDigitally in conjunction with the tape releases.
