This is a reissue record by Pygmy Unit, a spiritual jazz band from San Francisco, USA, released in April 2024 by Holidays in Italy in a limited edition of 4 copies. Below is an explanation by the label. "Pygmy Unit's 'Signals From Earth', the band's 8 independent recording, carved out a unique and little-known path in the history of American West Coast jazz. Pygmy Unit was a seven-piece band led by Darrell DeVore on flute, bass, percussion, piano, and vocals that emerged on the San Francisco scene in the early 2s. Native American tenor saxophonist Jim Pepper, best known as a member of the Mal Waldron Quartet, played with Charlie Haden and Don Cherry, and released the cult-popular Pepper's Paw on Embryo Records in 1974.・We are producing ``Wow''. John Serona, who plays saxophone, synthesizer, and percussion, later gained attention as an electronic composer. Little is known about the remaining members, saxophonist Frank Albright, bassoonist Ron Grann, and percussionist Marvin Kirkland. This LP seems to be all of their recordings.
