''Steeroll'' is the gate of such an introspective dive, where ethereal voices slowly lead down into a crammed abyss of sub-frequencies and sharped snares.
By joining ''Mabolo'' and ''Kaidan'' the architecture starts surfacing even more, enlightening traces of roots-reggae Rotoms and solid kickdrum foundations until the ''Balot'' destination arrives.

Trapped atop a lighthouse somewhere on a nameless isle, Grady Steele lies within range of a beacon. A sound system made of driftwood and discarded car stereos is carefully pieced together and painstakingly carried to the top of the obelisk, while a Spanish guitar plays an arpeggio. Flowing in a phasing loop through the deep sea, layering, sometimes creating faults, stopping, recording, and starting again. There's always a phosphorescent glow on the obelisk. The first album to feature (at least prominently) these six songs, while sketchy, they leave a memorable imprint of their source material, burning into your retina like the headlights of a passing car. Although this is Grady Steele's debut, it's not his first time working with sound, having spent the past decade running one of London's most important sound systems. The warm, melancholic tones of the Spanish guitar can be heard in almost all of the songs, and are sometimes intentionally distorted. The juxtaposition includes things that look like they were recorded on an iPhone in a hurry, and a drum machine left in the back of the studio, pulled out for a take or two, and then shelved again. The way the '6s voice imitator pads shine on the endurance is reminiscent of John T. Gast's early studio takes, and the synergy and precision of the guitar layering is reminiscent of Fuck Buttons' studio equipment. You can get a clue as to what the sound would have been like if you had sold your guitar and bought a couple of wooden 6 strings. Hollis Mickey has severe Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, which now significantly limits her ability to play music. This complex, energy-limiting disease with no effective treatment or cure inhibits Hollis’ physical, emotional, and cognitive output, and prohibits her from sitting up or standing for any duration.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eIn order to continue to create, Hollis had assistance constructing a recording set up with instruments set out – lap harp, flute, harmonium, kalimba, toy piano, and effects pedals, all complemented by her winding vocal lines. When she felt able, she would sit down in this arrangement and without preparation or composition, play until she was no longer energetically able. So, each\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e improvised track sonically captures Hollis’ physical capacity for that day. As she played, she was focused both on the creation of sound but also on the state of her body, trying to ensure not to exceed physical limits. A tenuous, visceral cadence pulls the sound forward, out of Hollis’ body, into the world, and reaches out to the listener.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAt the time of the release of this album, the severity of Hollis’ illness has progressed and she has been unable to make music for nearly one year, with her last playing captured in Cocoon. In this way, the album also serves as a recorded memory, a trace of a past body and way of expressing. In the same way, the winding tracks of ‘Cocoon’ represent the body and energy. Each track captures a real, finite amount of energy. Hollis Mickey has severe Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, which now significantly limits her ability to play music. This complex, energy-limiting disease with no effective treatment or cure inhibits Hollis’ physical, emotional, and cognitive output, and prohibits her from sitting up or standing for any duration.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eIn order to continue to create, Hollis had assistance constructing a recording set up with instruments set out – lap harp, flute, harmonium, kalimba, toy piano, and effects pedals, all complemented by her winding vocal lines. When she felt able, she would sit down in this arrangement and without preparation or composition, play until she was no longer energetically able. So, each\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e improvised track sonically captures Hollis’ physical capacity for that day. As she played, she was focused both on the creation of sound but also on the state of her body, trying to ensure not to exceed physical limits. A tenuous, visceral cadence pulls the sound forward, out of Hollis’ body, into the world, and reaches out to the listener.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAt the time of the release of this album, the severity of Hollis’ illness has progressed and she has been unable to make music for nearly one year, with her last playing captured in Cocoon. In this way, the album also serves as a recorded memory, a trace of a past body and way of expressing.
