"Ruth is Jason Crumer's previously inaccessible harsh noise masterpiece. Recorded specifically for CD (and mastered apocalyptically loud) in 2004-05, Ruth was planned for release on numerous labels at the time of its completion, none of which came to fruition. if resigned to its fate, it was released as a highly limited tape on Nazot in 2008 - a format not at all conducive to the material. The noise on Ruth is razor-sharp and absolutely pummeling cut-up style harsh noise, executed with masterful attention to detail and sheer brutality, offering only a handful of brief moments for the listener to try and catch their breath. While less narrative and more dry than most of his other albums, the sound is nonetheless emotionally charged in a way that only Crumer can do it. A sense of emergency is felt within the first few seconds of the first track, and the bitter taste of crisis lingers throughout the entire 37+ minutes of the CD. Ruth is a recording of legend for those who have followed Crumer's trajectory, now finally available to be heard as originally intended."

Nearly all of his releases are laced with masterful passages of blown out crunch, but always as a counterpoint to more delicate and introspective narrative sound. In 2020 as we worked on the Work Ethics CD together, I toyed with the idea of making such a suggestion, but before I had decided if it was appropriate or not, he unexpectedly released the Inblick cassette, an excellent 40 minute exercise in rough, thumping physical noise. Shortly thereafter without ever addressing the subject, he sent me a demo version of the Överblick cassette, and this one really hit the spot I was searching for: a long-form swell of crust, metal abuse, jagged loops and whistling feedback. Since the cassette version he planned was limited to around 40 copies, I figured it would be ideal to issue Öberblick in a larger edition on WCN. That’s when he sent me the crown jewel, the unreleased Återblick recording, and it all became very clear. This is the Altar Of Flies you know as he might have sounded released by Deadline Recordings in the mid-90s - in full fidelity and with destructive intent. The movement \u0026amp; build in each track so far is almost soundtrack-esque, there's a lot of emotion in these recordings, from my perspective there's a heavy sense of longing in these tracks, like a desperate trudge for life outside of the muck, like pushing a wheelbarrow with no wheels through a muddy field. Feels super focused, no moment feels like it's meandering, there's always a purpose \u0026amp; sense of direction. The diversity in the textures is great, loving this dead-yet-still-galloping horse clang \u0026amp; clack that batters along the way. Plenty of proper harsh tape grind \u0026amp; mangle, but none of it ever feels phoned in so as to save from a dull moment, it all falls into place just right, like slowly hiking your way to the top of the falls, rejoicing as we reach the peak, opposed to being blasted awake next to them. This arsenal of sounds employed on Dripping With Sweat is fantastic. Raw clamor \u0026amp; tumble down the golden pipes, scraping as we plummet. Rubbing the whetstone, sharpening the blades. These tectonic shifts hitting with maximum impact beneath the flying tape shrapnel, pillbox riddled with shellfire. dripping with sweat and breathing heavy. black fingernails from the dirt beneath. mummified in unspooled cassette tape and buried in the fields for the grandchildren to find after the thaw of winter. The movement \u0026amp; build in each track so far is almost soundtrack-esque, there's a lot of emotion in these recordings, from my perspective there's a heavy sense of longing in these tracks, like a desperate trudge for life outside of the muck, like pushing a wheelbarrow with no wheels through a muddy field. Feels super focused, no moment feels like it's meandering, there's always a purpose \u0026amp; sense of direction. The diversity in the textures is great, loving this dead-yet-still-galloping horse clang \u0026amp; clack that batters along the way. Plenty of proper harsh tape grind \u0026amp; mangle, but none of it ever feels phoned in so as to save from a dull moment, it all falls into place just right, like slowly hiking your way to the top of the falls, rejoicing as we reach the peak, opposed to being blasted awake next to them. This arsenal of sounds employed on Dripping With Sweat is fantastic. Raw clamor \u0026amp; tumble down the golden pipes, scraping as we plummet. Rubbing the whetstone, sharpening the blades. These tectonic shifts hitting with maximum impact beneath the flying tape shrapnel, pillbox riddled with shellfire. dripping with sweat and breathing heavy. black fingernails from the dirt beneath. mummified in unspooled cassette tape and buried in the fields for the grandchildren to find after the thaw of winter. This is a reissue CD released by the American Illinois noise artist Systems on the German noise label White Centipede Noise in September 2023. Harsh tape grinds and mangles abound, but they're often faked to avoid boring moments. It doesn't feel stinky and everything falls into place just like taking a leisurely hike to the top of the waterfall, rejoicing in reaching the top of the waterfall as opposed to falling asleep next to it. The sounds on Dripping With Sweat are amazing. The raw din rolls down the golden pipes, scraping with every swoop. Scraping the whetstone, sharpening the blade.
