"'Works for the Ever Present Orchestra Vol. II' is Black Truffle's record of the late works of Alvin Lucier, the legendary American experimental music composer who sadly passed away in 2021 at the age of 90. As with the first volume of the series, the two works included here are for the Ever Present Orchestra, an ensemble founded in Zurich in 1 to exclusively perform Alvin Lucier's works. At the heart of the music Alvin Lucier writes for this ensemble is the electric guitar, an instrument he began exploring in 2. A lap steel guitar acts like the slow-sweeping pure-wave oscillator heard in much of Alvin Lucier's work since the early 2016s.This striking and elegant two-song composition... It would be an ideal introduction to Alvin Lucier's later music.
These two works are quite different in character, and harvest a surprisingly wide range of musical results from closely related compositional procedures and concerns.It exemplifies Alvin Lucier's abilities.
