This is a book + CD released by two experimental musicians, Noel Meek from New Zealand and Mattin from Spain, from the experimental label Recital in LA, USA, in September 2.

Contains four collages created as a homage to composer Annea Lockwood, whom both artists respect. Contains 4 spoken word/collage/drone songs based on interviews conducted with Annea. The 4-page book includes the entire interview (in this case, the score), Annea's photographic materials, and an afterword by Annea.

Below is a commentary by the label.

"Recital presents a book and CD homage to the New Zealand-born American composer Annea Lockwood (b. 1939). The album's unique concept is inspired by the artist Noel, who each shares a deep admiration for Annea Lockwood. Created by Meek (New Zealand) and Mattin (Spain). At the end of 2020, the three artists had a long Skype conversation. They discussed politics, aesthetics and Annea's songwriting career. Noel Meek & Mattin From the beginning, it was decided that this very conversation would be used as the score for this album, Homage to Annea Lockwood.

"My work is my way of exploring the world," says Annea Lockwood. Each piece on her album reflects her prismatic compositional method.Sound maps, scores that unfold temporally or environmentally and synchronize with nature, pianos transplanted to exotic locations (often engulfed in flames). Noel Meek & Mattin remain playful and curious about Annea's sonic world. From electronic verbal fizz, to recordings that set your laptop on fire, to a hydrophonic diary written under an old oak tree in New Zealand, to a polyphonic choral piece that closes the album.

Homage to Annea Lockwood is presented in a hand-numbered paperback book with a complete transcription of the dialogue (in this case the score), extensive photographic documentation, and a lovely afterword written by Annea Lockwood. It's closed. Recital is particularly pleased to be working with Annea again several years later, after publishing her album Ground of Being (R2014, CD) in 7. What a joy it is to honor Annea, and how fitting that it is done through the ritual of music. "

Recital:

"Recital presents a book and CD homage to the New Zealand-born American composer Annea Lockwood (b. 1939). The unique concept for this album was conceived by artists Noel Meek (New Zealand) and Mattin (Spain), who each share a deep admiration for Lockwood. A longform Skype conversation between the three artists was arranged at the end of 2020. They discussed politics, aesthetics, and Annea's compositional practice among other things. Noel Meek & Mattin had from the beginning decided that the conversation itself would be used as a score for this album, Homage to Annea Lockwood.

“My work is my way of exploring the world” says Lockwood. Each piece on the album reflects her prismatic compositional practice: sound maps, scores that unfold temporally or environmentally, synchronous with nature, and pianos transplanted to exotic locations (often engulfed in flames ). Meek & Mattin maintain a playfulness and curiosity of Annea's sound world; from electronic verbal fizz, a recording of lighting a laptop on fire, hydrophonic diaries from underneath an old oak tree in New Zealand, to a polyphonic choral piece which concludes the album .

Homage to Annea Lockwood is housed in a hand-numbered paperback book, which carries a full transcription of the conversation, in this case… the score, along with lush photographic documentation, and ending with a lovely afterword written by Annea Lockwood. Recital is especially happy to be working with Annea again years later , after publishing her 2014 album Ground of Being (R7, CD). What a joy it is to celebrate Annea, and how appropriate it be done through the ritual of music."
