"Electronic Music from 1972-2022 draws on Carl Stone's 50-year composing career with his early work released professionally in 1972 (Three Confusongs and the voice of Stefan Weisser, later known as Z'EV. This is an archive collection that introduces everything in one fell swoop, from Ryuound Thygyzunz (featuring poetry and poetry) to the present day.This collection is not intended as a definitive history, but rather as a supplement to be used side by side with the previous two archives. At the same time,An archival release commemorating the 70th anniversary of Carl Stone's birth and a document of archival art.In the spirit of confusing repetition and layering, let's call it an archive of archives.

Carl Stone's work was born out of an iterative archiving process in graduate school at CalArts, where records were dubbed to tape for preservation.From perhaps 1 albums, from Renaissance and electronic works to music from around the world, he had to re-record multiple discs simultaneously, creating fortuitous collisions and coincidences.

In the decades since, he has explored different ways of composing this process, creating temporal envelopes that shape the found sounds of pre-existing tracks and field recordings.The technology he uses varies and the samples are unclassifiably diverse, but what remains consistent is his interest in organizing temporal experiences using existing snippets of sound.

Construct time separated from time like a collageCarl Stone's work suggests that the archival record lies not in documents preserved from change or in living memories and uses, but in their interactions. "

"Electronic Music from 1972-2022 seeks to frame fifty years of Carl Stone's compositional activity, starting with Stone's earliest professionally presented compositions from 1972 ("Three Confusongs" and "Ryound Thygyzunz", featuring the voice and poetry of Stefan Weiser – later known as Z 'EV) up to the present. This collection is not meant as a definitive history but rather as a supplement to be used alongside the previous two archival releases. It is simultaneously an archival release marking Carl Stone's evergreen 70th birthday and a document of archival art In the spirit of disorienting repetition and layering, call it an archive of archiving.

Stone's practice emerged from the repetitive archival process of his graduate job at CalArts preserving vinyl recordings by dubbing them to tape.
